Numan Kurtulmuş, the New Speaker of the Parliament
The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) has elected its new speaker for the 28th period today.
The AK Party and MHP nominated Numan Kurtulmuş, while the CHP group nominated Tekin Bingöl as a candidate. Cihan Paçacı participated in the election as the candidate of the Good Party. The Turkey Worker's Party nominated Şerafettin Can Atalay, who is currently imprisoned for Hatay. The Green Left Party's candidate was Tülay Hatimoğulları Oruç, MP for Adana.
DEVA Party's Istanbul Deputy, Mustafa Yeneroğlu, and Future Party's Antalya MP, Serap Yazıcı Özbudun, were also candidates for the speaker position.
The General Assembly of the Parliament gathered to determine the new speaker, and the voting was secret.
None of the candidates received 400 votes in the first round of the election. In the first round, Numan Kurtulmuş received 317 votes, Tekin Bingöl 131, and Cihan Paçacı 42.
In the second round, none of the candidates received the necessary votes for a majority.
AK Party's Istanbul MP, Numan Kurtulmuş, was elected as the Speaker of the Parliament with 321 votes in the third round. (İLKHA)
